VBA - Visual Basic for Applications -
VBA has been around for over 20 years. In the early days it was a limited to core functions supporting MS Access, Excel, Word and Windows Server functions such as login scripts. The early days of DOS were used to manage logins to Novell Servers which was the impossible to catch leader for nearly a decade.

Active Server Pages (ASP)
Developed by Microsoft in mid nineties as their foray so the Windows NT Servers could be sold as supporting web sites. The IIS model 5.0 was pretty crude compared to current standards but then few hardly cared about online attacks such as the NIMBA virus.
MS Office Automation
This is where MS Access can take over MS Outlook or send data to MS Word to Publish a mailing list or mailmerge.
